Murals

Mural costs vary based on the following factors:

-Quality of Materials used (spray paint, latex paint, clear coats, primers/sealers) Equipment Needs (i.e. scaffolding, lift, masking materials, sprayers, etc.)

-Complexity of design (i.e. amount of detail, number of colors, style, size, location, etc.)

-Design Process (i.e. digital sketches, physical drawings, paint sampling, etc.)

-Average mural costs range from sq/ft and predicted time per/ sqft of the area being painted, with a $1000 minimum. The final quote will include the cost of insurance, materials, design, and labor; but, does not include general repair and preparation of surfaces (i.e.. cleaning, masonry work, priming, etc.), clear coating of the wall to be painted, or scaffolding.

-A materials deposit of half of the total cost of the mural is requested two-three weeks before painting begins in order to purchase supplies and reserve necessary equipment rentals.

-Most murals require at least one week to complete, at the very least. I will work fast and do what I can to keep budgets within margins and original estimates; however, I’m a sucker for precision and I can’t/won’t rush a job.

Art Lessons

I started painting and drawing when I was 9 years old. And I just never stopped. Art got me through a lot of tough times. When I graduated from high school, I went to college for Political Science… only to drop out my final semester to move to Portland, OR and pursue art… full time. I finished my degree, but this time in what I was most passionate about— Art History, Painting, & Figure Drawing.

To get my way through college, I begrudgingly took up art tutoring and private lessons. But what I soon discovered was that my true passion was teaching art to young teens. Over the past 12 years, I’ve worked with a lot of kids/teens for whom art has also gotten through a lot of tough times. The power of art is transcendent. As our youth, er, uhm… shit, who are we kidding? <as our collective humanity> learns to navigate hormones and the stresses of life, it’s important to have positive coping skills and a strong role model. My lessons tend to focus on teaching classical drawing but tend to branch out into most mediums: pencil, pen, paint, clay, photography, videography. Art history is also ALWAYS incorporated. For, how better to know the way forward than to study the past? I only do single student lessons. Should a student not be interested in learning strict fundamentals, my perspective then shifts to the therapeutic power of mark-making and color-shaping. I understand wanting your child to be skilled; however, I believe that art should be the pathway to a child discovering the sense of self and emotional intelligence. Private lessons are sliding scale. I firmly believe that art is and should be for EVERYONE.

Commissions

I take on very, very, VERY few individual commissioned pieces. But, in the oft chance that I have the free time to take on a commissioned painting/drawing/portrait, it never hurts to ask. Please just send me a message if this is something you are looking for/considering.
